BREAD WINNER RISES TO THE OCCASION

A STUDENT PROJECT on the use of Malacca winter wheat for bread making has won £100 of book tokens in a competition at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire.James Osman, an HND Countryside Management student at Harper Adams, received the Hydro Cup, and the £100 prize, last week for his project, entitled ‘Malacca winter wheat for bread making.’
Hydro Agri UK Ltd, the country’s market leader for the manufacture and supply of plant nutrient products and advice for farmers and growers, sponsors the Hydro Cup – an annually awarded accolade, given in recognition of the best student report produced for the Crop Protection module of their course.
In total, more than 70 students entered the initial selection process, presided over by an independent internal judge.
James, 27, from Wimborne in Dorset, produced a project report including a discussion of integrated crop management that judges described as ‘technically sound.’ They also said he had made a good presentation that ‘reflected the effort put into the project.’
David Barrett, Area Manager for the award sponsors Hydro Agri (UK) Ltd visited a Governors’ Lunch at Harper Adams on June 6, to make the presentation to James and meet runners-up James Harris, Helen Russ, James Giddy and Oliver Scott.
